This abundance of local ingredients serves as the foundation for Galway’s renowned farm-to-table movement, where the emphasis is on showcasing the flavors of the land and sea. Day 1: Galway City Exploration

Morning:

Start your day with a hearty breakfast at Ard Bia at Nimmos, a popular local spot known for its delicious and innovative dishes using fresh, locally sourced ingredients.

Take a stroll through the colorful streets of Galway’s Latin Quarter, stopping by the Galway Market (open on Saturdays 8am-6pm and Sundays 12pm-6pm) to sample local produce, artisanal cheeses, fresh seafood, and homemade treats.

Afternoon:

For lunch, head to Kai, a cosy and acclaimed eatery that celebrates Irish cuisine with a modern twist. Their seasonal menus ensure creative dishes with fresh seasonal ingredients.

Explore the Galway City Museum, where you can learn about the rich history and culture of Galway. After, grab a coffee from Coffeewerk + Press located on Quay Street, and sit down by the Claddagh which offers beautiful views of the River Corrib (weather permitting of course!).

Evening:

Enjoy dinner at Aniar, a Michelin-starred restaurant focusing on contemporary Irish cuisine. The menu is centered around locally sourced, sustainable ingredients, offering a unique gastronomic experience.

End the evening with a visit to Tigh Neachtain, a traditional Irish pub with a cosy atmosphere and live music. Savour a pint of Guinness or try a local craft beer while enjoying the lively atmosphere.

Day 2: Connemara Delights

Morning:

Begin your day with a scenic drive to Connemara, a picturesque region known for its rugged landscapes and traditional Irish culture.

Stop by Connemara Smokehouse in Ballyconneely, where you can witness the traditional smoking process of salmon and sample their exquisite smoked seafood.

Afternoon:

Enjoy lunch at Mitchell’s Seafood Restaurant in Clifden, a family-run establishment renowned for its seafood dishes. Indulge in freshly caught fish and shellfish, and take a stroll through Clifden town after lunch.

Visit the Connemara Heritage and History Centre in Lettershea (just under 4 miles from Clifden), where you can explore the interactive exhibits and learn about the region’s fascinating past. 

Evening:

Make your way back to Galway City and have dinner at Cava Bodega, a tapas restaurant serving a wide range of Spanish-inspired small plates. The menu features both traditional and modern flavors, paired with an extensive selection of wines.

Wrap up the day with a visit to The Dáil Bar, a lively pub known for its friendly atmosphere and live music sessions. Enjoy a nightcap while immersing yourself in Galway’s vibrant music scene.

Day 3: Gastronomic Exploration of Galway County & The Burren

Morning:

Visit the Galway International Oyster and Seafood Festival, held annually in September (check if your visit aligns with the festival dates). This celebration of Galway’s oyster heritage offers the opportunity to taste fresh oysters and seafood from Galway Bay, accompanied by live music and entertainment.

If not, start your day with a trip to the Burren in County Clare. Stop at Kinvara along the way and sit down with a locally roasted coffee at SIAR, while you look out onto the southern shores of Galway Bay.

Afternoon:

Continue your scenic drive along the Wild Atlantic Way and across the border to the Flaggy Shore and get a taste of delicious local ice-cream at Linnalla Café, or grab some lunch at the nearby Monks Ballyvaughan, where you can indulge in deliciously fresh seafood, or the classics of steak or beef stew. 

Onwards to the Burren Smokehouse in Lisdoonvarna. Take a guided tour to learn about their traditional smoking methods and sample their award-winning smoked salmon.

Evening:

Return to Galway City and treat yourself to a dinner at Rúibín, a restaurant known for its innovative and artfully presented dishes. Rúibín focuses on showcasing the flavors of local ingredients and offers a carefully curated wine list. 

Alternatively, take a 2 hour culinary walking tour of Galway with Galway Food Tours. The tour gives a great overview of the passionate people behind the county’s beautiful produce, as you’ll get to meet artisan producers and sample their products with an experienced guide, giving you insights of local favourites and treasured ingredients.

End your culinary journey with a visit to O’Connell’s Bar, a historic pub in the heart of Galway. Unwind with a drink of your choice while reflecting on your delightful food-filled adventure in County Galway.
